About Us - Our History In 1939, the US Government built the Camp Kilmer Army Base in Piscataway, NJ. This base was used in the mid 1940's as a processing center for troops heading overseas during World War II and as a refugee camp for Hungarian immigrants during the 1950's. What the government did not realize was that God had an even greater purpose in mind for this facility. Ten years later, in the Fall of 1949, a group of determined parents started a small Christian school. They named the school Timothy Christian School - because Timothy was the youngest Christian in the Bible involved in ministry. With only one class and two dedicated teachers, the school met in the basement of a local church during those early years. As the school slowly grew, more space was required; and in 1960 Timothy Christian School moved to its present location in Camp Kilmer. By this time the school included grades K-8, with the entire school contained in one small building. In 1966, the school took ownership of another building and over the course of the next 20 years, the Lord provided additional buildings as the needs arose. If the facilities weren't there the Lord provided the resources to build new buildings. The first building the school built was a chapel in 1978, which is now the Middle School Building. The largest undertaking of the school was our impressive gymnasium built in 1989. In addition, four buildings have had major renovations done allowing the school to add new programs and facilities including: a band room, an art room, a multimedia room, a library, and most recently a new chapel. The high school program was added in 1975, with the first graduating class receiving their diplomas in 1978. The vision that began so long ago is still strong and clear in the hearts and minds of those who are part of the Timothy Christian School family. We are confident that as the Lord has provided so miraculously in the past, He will continue to lead us into the future as we strive to prepare young people for lives that will impact our world for Jesus Christ. |
Timothy Christian School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs. |
